NZ expects bumper season for golden kiwifruit

New Zealand's kiwifruit growers are looking forward to a bumper season. The bulk of the harvest is set to begin soon and the industry is forecasting a record year.

Kiwifruit Growers chairman Doug Brown said growers were expecting to sell 20 million more trays of a gold, PSA-tolerant variety this year, compared with last year.

"We've grafted over to a new gold variety, and this has been the driving force of our recovery.

Mr Brown, who grows kiwifruit in Opotiki, Te Puke and Gisborne, said New Zealand was still also producing record amounts of green kiwifruit.
