General decline in Bulgarian fruit and vegetable exports in August

Bulgarian fruit and vegetable exports to Russia shrunk by a third in August. Data of the National Statistical Institute (NSI) show that the value of sales dropped by 33% to 1.1 million Lev (563.4 thousand Euro). Statistics show, however, that this decline in exports was not only towards the Russian Federation, but to all countries. In the eighth month of the year, Bulgaria's fruit and vegetable exports totalled an estimated 4.7 million Lev (2.4 million Euro), while a year earlier it was 5.9 million Lev (3.02 million Euro). The main reason for this is the rainy summer, which resulted in lower production volumes.

Data on the trade balance for the first eight months of the year show that exports to the EU and third countries decreased. Bulgaria's total exports dropped by 3.4% compared to last year and registered a 2.9% decline since January.
