Indian potatoes and grapes are in Russia's spotlight

Many Indian exporters of table grapes at the end of last season seriously burnt their fingers in Europe and lost almost the entire crop. The suppliers of potatoes currently face the same problem: a minimum export price (MEP) has been set at 500 dollars per tonne.

Nevertheless, as strange as it sounds, this situation has been advantageous for potato producers, and for grape growers, - said Tarun Arora, director of IG International.

According to Mr. Arora, as Russia closed the doors to a number of his competitors, new doors were opened for his country. The Indian market has become visible for the European, Turkish and Iranian producers.

The import-export company IG International has started to get more proposals from Spanish producers of stone fruit, looking for new markets, as well as new orders from Russian buyers seeking to ensure the supply of potatoes and grapes. Thus, today Tarun Arora is in a very favourable position.

Precipitation is expected to be sufficient for a good harvest of potatoes. The production is believed to meet the increased Russian demand.
