The southern hemisphere Wonderful Halos mandarin season has wrapped up and has transitioned to the California clementine crop. "We leveraged fruit mostly from South Africa and Chile and as a result of steady supply, our import programs seamlessly bridged seasonal transitions," says Zak Laffite, President of Wonderful Citrus. "Steady supply also enabled us to offer Halos year-round, meeting consumer demand without sacrificing quality."

Adapting to weather conditions
The transition to the northern hemisphere has been smooth. The California mandarin season for Wonderful Halos began in November and will go through May before summer import programs kick off again. Growing conditions leading up to harvest have been favorable in California. "Despite some recent rain events in the Central Valley, the season is off to a great start with fruit showing exceptional consistency and flavor," commented Laffite. The harvest team has been busy navigating rain events, managing picking crews as well as the timing of harvest. "However, we are well-positioned to adapt to various weather conditions, given our innovative farming practices and expertise, as well as our scale and the specific locations where our ranches are located."
California harvest is off to a strong start with a four percent volume increase for Wonderful Halos. New California-grown varieties in combination with an expanded summer imports program have resulted in an expansion of Halos volume to achieve year-round availability. "In addition to steady volume, maintaining our Halos quality standard of prioritizing sweetness remains a top goal." By working closely with its imports team, Wonderful Citrus ensures that fruit quality remains consistent.

Vitamin C
Demand for Wonderful Halos is anticipated to be strong again this season as consumers continue to seek functional foods that are flavorful, convenient, and support their wellness goals. During the winter months, shoppers often look to boost their vitamin C intake for immune support. "It is important for us to continue to share that Halos mandarins are the perfect vitamin C-packed snack," Laffite mentioned. In fact, one serving of Halos – two medium mandarins – contains 50 percent of the recommended daily value.
With consumers increasingly gravitating towards simple, grab-and-go options, demand for packaged citrus is up. Wonderful Halos are offered in 2lb. and 3lb. bags, as well as larger 5lb. bags and boxes to fit a variety of needs. Whether packing daily lunches or fueling a sports team, these formats provide a convenient and nutritious snacking option. For consumers seeking organic citrus, organic Wonderful Halos are available in 2lb. bags at select retailers.
