Khazaen central market for fruits and vegetables to open in Oman

Khazaen Economic City has revealed the forthcoming launch of Khazaen Central Market for Fruits and Vegetables, slated for the end of the first half of 2024, with project completion currently exceeding 98%. Salim bin Sulaiman Al Zahli, the CEO, highlighted the market as a significant component within Khazaen Economic City, emphasizing its role in the marketing, distribution, storage, export, and re-export of produce on both international and local scales.

The project, which has attracted over OMR50 million in private sector investments, aims to serve as a national marketing platform for Oman's local agricultural products. Spanning an area of 500 sq. meters, five times larger than the existing market, the new facility is designed for future expansion and aims to reduce current produce waste levels of 30% to 35%.

Al Zahli underscored the market's potential to offer numerous investment opportunities for SMEs, alongside various kiosks for product sales, thereby revolutionizing the agricultural marketing landscape for local produce. The strategic objectives of Khazaen Central Market include bolstering food security by drawing both local and international investments into the food sector, enhancing the performance and quality within the vegetables and fruits sector, and providing comprehensive logistics solutions to minimize produce waste.
