AU: A FreshView on ripening and degreening technology systems

Developed by an Australian based company, Pacific Data Systems, the FreshView EC12 Ripening Controller system is being heralded as the latest proven, robust technology to monitor, control, ripen, degreen, and store fruit and other perishable commodities.

The modular industrial design of the FreshView system ensures simple installation and allows for the measurement and control of multiple parameters across multiple ripening rooms, according to the manufacturer. “This provides greater flexibility when meeting the ever-expanding operational demands encountered by any small, medium or large fruit handling organisation,” says Paul Gapes from Pacific Data Systems.

"The EC12 provides the industry with a safer method of monitoring and maintaining set ethylene, carbon dioxide, temperature, relative humidity, pulp temperature and oxygen levels in ripening rooms. These are all factors that can influence the ripening process and will ultimately lead to a higher standard of presentation, longer shelf life and a more uniformly ripened, tastier piece of fruit."

As well as being a fully automated system, a high priority during the design process was to ensure that the information provided to the client would be both easily understood and easily accessible.

A simple touch-screen display allows the end user to see current system status, historical data and/or set-point adjustment for single, or multiple, ripening rooms at any one time.

The EC12 can also be switched instantaneously to show the information in a graphical format that allows the operator to clearly see what the individual parameter trends are within each ripening room, according to Mr Gapes.

The FreshView EC12 Ripening Controller system includes features to ensure secure operations locally or remotely via the Internet.

“Multiple password entry restricts access to various functions of the EC12. In addition, the system records each and every time a change is made to operational parameters which ultimately provides traceability and drives accountability.” says Mr Gapes.

Using a smartphone, or desktop, laptop, or tablet PC, further monitoring and control is also available from anywhere in the world via a remote web portal (3G/4G/LAN access required). With a unique customer code, username and password login, the end user is provided round-the-clock peace of mind.

Asia Fruit Logistica 2015 in Hong Kong was an ideal opportunity to showcase the new system. “It was a good opportunity to present and discuss the EC-12 system to both the end user and organisations involved in fruit ripening,” says Mr Gapes. “Positive feedback was encouraging. We look forward to assisting those companies interested in implementing and adopting this technology to improve the handling of their respective commodities and maximising their return on investment. We are encouraged and excited to be introducing the FreshView EC12 Ripening Controller system to the market.”
