The pomegranate exports from India have seen steady growth over the past few years, says Sourabh Jaiswal, Business Development Manager for Indian produce exporter KK Star: "The current pomegranate production in India matches previous years' levels, with Maharashtra leading India's output at 54.89% across over 115,000 hectares. Indian pomegranate exports have shown steady growth over the past years, as during the season of FY 2022-23, India exported 62,280 MT valued at USD 58.36 million. One year later, exports climbed to 72,011 MT, which is an 18% growth, worth USD 69.08 million. In FY 2024-25, as the season lasted from April until January, exports reached USD 59.76 million, a 21% increase over the same period last year."

Currently, due to strong demand in all markets, prices have gone up by quite a bit, Jaiswal explains. "Farmgate prices are up 10-15% this season, driven by strong domestic demand and the 21% export growth. Maharashtra pomegranates command a 20 to 30% premium due to superior quality. Global prices remain stable, with minimal seasonal variation. Domestic consumption has also grown by 10-15%. According to APEDA, the global pomegranate market is projected to reach USD 7.09 billion by 2027, growing at a 7.2% CAGR."

KK Star will enter new major markets this year, such as Russia and the United States, Jaiswal states: "Our regular export markets include the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Oman, the Netherlands, and the United Arab Emirates. This year, we have successfully signed MOUs with importers in the United States and Russia and are arranging our first shipments to these new, high-potential markets, so naturally, we're very excited for the season."
"The high perishability of pomegranates remains a challenge, limited cold chain infrastructure, high logistics costs, and strict international compliance. We overcome these by partnering with advanced cold storage facilities, keeping the fruit at temperatures between 5 and 7°C, utilizing Modified Atmosphere Packaging to extend shelf life, ensuring quality assurance through hands-on farmer training, and optimizing logistics from farm to destination."

"We're optimistic about the remainder of the season. Supply is steady through January, demand from our European and US buyers remains strong, and prices are holding firm," Jaiswal concludes.
