While packing has resumed, last week Canada was in a bit of a wait and see situation with mangoes from Peru. While the country just began shipping Kent mangoes, there were concerns from growers over pricing.
"The logistics from Peru has been good and better than other years so it's been steady with shipments," says Giorgio Ceciarelli of GC Imports. "Last week, the growers didn't let the packing houses pack or harvest the fruit because the prices were too low. This week they restarted packing."
This comes amidst pricing on Peruvian mangoes that is slightly higher than last year. "On one hand, I see good crops coming out of Peru on mangoes. On the other, they are pushing for prices higher than Brazil and Ecuador's," says Ceciarelli. "So with that, we really don't know where the market will be. They do have volume and count on Canada for moving the product."

Meanwhile mangoes are also shipping from Ecuador right now and Brazil began shipping Ataulfo mangoes at the end of October in a steady, but slower than usual market. Ataulfo shipments from Brazil will go for another one to two weeks.
"Brazil has had some problems with ocean shipments–there have been delays but the market has been a little tough. In the red variety, its shipments haven't been steady. It goes up and down and sometimes the containers come altogether and prices drop. Then, there isn't any product available and prices rise. I haven't seen an oversupply though," says Ceciarelli, adding that the country is about to ship greater volumes of mangoes to Canada. Pricing on Brazilian mangoes has also been similar to last year's pricing.
As for Ecuador, it began shipments of mangoes last month and is shipping all varieties of mangoes.
Meanwhile, GC Imports is also getting ready for the Mexican mango season. "Mexico has had rain so we don't know what the beginning of their season will look like," Ceciarelli says, noting that Ataulfos from Mexico will begin shipping to Canada in the third week of December.
