The Government of Peru, via the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation, has signed the phytosanitary protocols for exporting fresh bananas and pomegranates to China.
The protocols were signed by the Minister of Agrarian Development and Irrigation, Vladimir Cuno Salcedo, and the Minister of the General Administration of Customs of China, Sun Meijun, who were accompanied by technical delegations from both countries.

"It is an honor to participate in this bilateral event that reaffirms our commitment to strengthening the ties of friendship and cooperation between Peru and the People's Republic of China in the agri-food and sanitary sectors," said Minister Cuno.
"China's rapprochement with Peru is very positive, and the results will soon be seen. We have a wide variety of products that are ready for export," he added.
He also explained that signing the protocols resulted from a thorough technical process between the National Agricultural Health Service (Senasa) and China's General Administration of Customs, which involved several years of joint effort and sanitary assessments.
During the ceremony, a Memorandum of Understanding on sanitary and phytosanitary matters was also signed, further strengthening technical and agri-food cooperation between the two economies.
Agro-export potential
Last year, Peru exported 148,000 tons of bananas and 28,000 tons of pomegranates to various international destinations. Piura accounts for 85% of banana production, while Ica leads in pomegranate production and exports, with 75% of the national total.
These agreements enhance agri-food collaboration between Peru and China, a nation with a market of over 1.4 billion consumers and increasing demand for high-quality food, Midagri stated.
