EU banana market:

EU banana production reaches 543,806 tons in 2025

According to the European Commission's Bananas Market Situation – October 2025 report, total EU banana production for 2025 is forecast at 543,806 tons, with 60,911 tons marketed within producing regions and 482,896 tons marketed outside them. The average price for bananas sold locally was €1.12/kg, while those marketed outside producing regions averaged €1.14/kg.

Spain remains the EU's largest producer, with a total 2025 output of 321,041 tons. Of this, 44,253 tons were marketed locally at €1.27/kg, and 276,788 tons were exported to other EU markets at €1.39/kg. Spanish production was highest between January and April at 115,490 tons and lowest between September and December at 94,500 tons.

In France and its overseas territories, total production reached 192,776 tons. This included 6,468 tons sold locally at €0.51/kg and 186,308 tons exported at €0.76/kg. Guadeloupe contributed 57,973 tons at an average of €0.72/kg, while Martinique produced 134,803 tons at €0.78/kg.

Portugal's production totaled 25,897 tons in 2025. Of this, 6,299 tons were marketed locally at €0.95/kg, and 19,598 tons were sold outside producing regions at €1.32/kg. Cyprus produced 3,335 tons at €0.74/kg, while Greece reported 757 tons at €1.21/kg.

For early 2026, EU banana production is projected at 196,752 tons, compared with 177,599 tons for the same period in 2025. Spain is expected to contribute 126,000 tons, France 62,200 tons, and Portugal 7,170 tons, indicating steady year-on-year growth across the main producing regions.
