Pesticide issue halts Chinese kiwifruit at Taiwan's border

Taiwan's Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) recently intercepted a 17,920-kilogram shipment of "YANG SHI FRUIT" kiwifruit from Shaanxi, China, due to excessive pesticide residue. The consignment, handled by Grand Bay Fresh Fruits Co., Ltd. in Taipei, was stopped for containing 0.06 ppm of procymidone, a fungicidal pesticide, exceeding the permissible limit of 0.01 ppm.

The TFDA's Deputy Director-General, Lin Chin-fu, confirmed the action, but did not clarify whether the kiwifruit was destroyed or returned. This incident was part of broader border controls that also saw the seizure of other food items and goods, including desserts from Vietnam with illegal preservatives, Thai curry paste with a banned sweetener, and Korean pizza sauce with excessive preservatives. The inspections underscore the TFDA's vigilance in safeguarding food safety.
