CDC announces end of salmonella outbreak tied to cantaloupes

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced the end of a salmonella outbreak tied to cantaloupes, which had affected more than 400 individuals across 44 states since November. The CDC confirmed in a post that the recalled cantaloupes were no longer on sale and had surpassed their "use-by dates".

Health officials reported that of those who fell ill, 158 had to be hospitalized. The outbreak, which had also claimed six lives, was not limited to the US. The fruit had also been sold in Canada, causing dozens to fall sick.

The Canadian provinces affected included British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, and Newfoundland and Labrador. The Public Health Agency of Canada confirmed that many individuals had to be hospitalized following the fruit recall warning issued by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency on November 1.
