Farmers Pick co-founder Josh Brooks-Duncan:

'Queensland floods will not affect fruit and vegetable prices too much ahead of Christmas'

Australians are worried about a pre-Christmas price surge due to the impact of the Queensland floods on the nation's fruit and vegetable supplies. Ex-Cyclone Jasper has caused disastrous flooding throughout Cairns and surrounding areas in Far North Queensland. As it wiped out crops and farmland, Australia could experience a shortage of some summer fruits grown in the area.

Farmers Pick co-founder Josh Brooks-Duncan: "The biggest challenge at the moment is transport. [Many of] the roads are cut off, so there might be a small shortage of fruit, especially bananas and Kensington Pride mangoes because the fruit will be stuck at the farm in Queensland."

While there might be a slight delay regarding deliveries in parts of the country, prices will likely not be affected, Brooks-Duncan predicted, at least not as a result of the current floods. "The pre-planning that the farmers did, they'll have enough stuff to send down. So prices won't be impacted."
