New South Wales avocado growers expect best-ever harvest

It seems that NSW avocado growers are now on track to have the best harvest ever. The forecast harvest is 1.6 million trays, up from 1.1 mln trays last year. Each tray contains between 16 and 30 pieces of fruit depending on their size.

Avocados Australia central NSW director Ian Tolson: "The crop has just started in NSW and it has the potential to be the biggest we've ever had. For some it will be the best they've ever had with a good fruit set, but some had trouble with hail."

Tolson, who has been growing the fruit for 20 years at Stuarts Point on the NSW Mid North Coast, said the fruit would be smaller because of the drought, but otherwise the only thing going against the industry was if there was another wave of COVID-19 that brought back tight restrictions.
