All things onions on the menu at Onions Australia’s recent Levy Payers’ meeting

All things onions were on the menu at Onions Australia’s recent Levy Payers’ meeting in Melbourne.

The session, held as a shoulder event to Hort Connections, was attended by 50 industry representatives from every state in Australia, while a group of New Zealand onion industry representatives also attended.

The highlight of the gathering was the keynote presentation from Onions New Zealand CEO James Kuperus, who gave a detailed update about his country’s onion operations.

Other feature speakers included representatives from OA key sponsors Corteva, Dobmac, Monsanto Seminis, AgNova, EE Muir & Sons and Terranova.

HIA staff also gave an update about the onion industry trade and export programs.

Onions Australia CEO Lechelle Earl said the event was extremely successful, and provided a great opportunity for a national round up of onion plantings and production, as well as an insight into international trends.

“It is always such a great day when onion growers from across Australia come together to share information and learn about the latest developments in the industry,” she said. “By holding our event as part of the overall Hort Connections experience it allows growers to make the most of a jam packed few days.”

The next Onions Australia event will be the AGM conference, to be held in Swan Hill, Victoria on October 17-18.
