In July 2024, Peru exported 4,688 tons of ginger for $9.7 million, i.e. 20.3% less volume and 9.4% more value than the 5,885 tons of ginger it exported for $8.9 million in the same month last year. This increase in value is mainly attributed to the 37.3% increase in price over the previous year that allowed the average to stand at $2.07 per kilogram, influenced by the reduction in production in China and India, the main exporters worldwide.
Peru exported ginger to 16 international markets, one less than in 2023. The United States remained the largest importer, with 1,978 tons worth $4.5 million and an average price of US$2.27 per kilogram. It was followed by the Netherlands, with 35.0% of the total exported, equivalent to $3.4 million, 1,661 tons, and an average price of $2.04 per kilogram; Spain, with 7.0% of the total, 293 tons worth $674,000 and an average price of $2.30/kilogram; Canada, with a 4.0% share, 199 tons worth $388,000 and an average price of $1.95/kilogram; and Italy with a 2.2% share, 74 tons worth $217,000 and an average price of $2.92/kilogram.
