Data from the Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB) for June revealed an uptick in food prices, with the inflation rate for 'Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages' reaching 6.1 percent. This rise is attributed to increased prices across various food items.
Notably, fresh vegetables saw a significant surge, with prices climbing by 17.8 percent. Specifically, cabbage prices soared from $1.87 to $2.86 per pound, marking a 53% increase, while lettuce prices jumped by 37% from $3.26 to $4.48. Additionally, the SIB reported an 8.9 percent hike in the cost of fruits including grapefruits, oranges, limes, grapes, watermelons, and soursops. Overall, consumer prices in Belize were up by 3.7% in June.
