Vietnam's agricultural exports to Russia have surged by 48.7% over the past five months, with coffee, seafood, cashew nuts, and fruits and vegetables being the most imported goods. Preliminary statistics from the General Department of Customs show that by late May 2024, agricultural export turnover to Russia reached US$331.3 million, marking a 49.7% increase from the previous year.
Cashew nuts reached US$28 million, up 81.8%; and fruits and vegetables totaled US$26.8 million, a 25.2% rise.
The Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) attributes this growth to improved transportation routes and services. Russian transport companies have established direct routes from Ho Chi Minh City and Hai Phong to Vladivostok, and new shipping routes have reduced transit times. The railway transport system also supports deliveries to Russia, diversifying freight options.
Additionally, tariff incentives from the Vietnam-Eurasian Economic Union Free Trade Agreement (VN-EAEU FTA), signed in 2015, have boosted the competitiveness of Vietnamese agricultural products in the EU market, including Russia.
