“The field crop price of the yellow onion is between the 13 and 14 cents. The bale prices are between the 16 and 18 cents, so the margins are very slim. Despite all this, I’m not unhappy with the way things are. Usually, everyone is happy with such a price level. There is nothing wrong with the fact that the pricing has been stable for a while,” Arie continues. “Besides, we have come from a nice dry harvest period and this resulted in good quality and nice colouring of the onions.”
River Onions is a commercial enterprise that sells the onions, shallots, and garlic of the producer union. This way, River Onions has control over the whole chain. “The last few years, we have been making contract agreements with the industry for peeled onions during the cultivation season, in which we work together with a Polish group. That way, we can supply the industry also with peeled onions and shallots,” says Arie.
Recently, River Onions has passed the IFS Broker audit, held by DNV-GL. “We were already GlobalGAP and SKAL certified. Achieving the IFS certificate confirms that River Onions and its employees are doing everything for their clients and customers to supply a quality, reliable, safe, and fresh product.”
