"Good supply and sales of coconuts"

December traditionally brings more demand for coconuts. "At the moment there is a better demand than was the case in previous years. A lot of coconuts have come in and there are also a lot leaving. Sales are quick," says Hans van der Kooij of Joko Impex. According to the importer the consumption of coconut, partially due to the attention on tv, has been on the rise in recent years.

"Our regular customers order coconuts all year through, but often more in December. There are German customers with deals, for instance," says Hans. He is satisfied with the sales of coconuts this year. "From October to the start of November there was one dip, but this recovered well over the last few weeks. We aren't complaining. In summer there is traditionally more demand from the south of Europe. At this time most demand is from eastern countries. We are supplying a lot of coconuts to Russia through Dutch exporters."

Joko Impex gets most of the coconuts from the Ivory Coast. "The prices of the Ivory Coast coconuts are at a reasonably stable level, depending on the size between 11 and 14 Euro. We also import coconuts from Sri Lanka, but there aren't many of them at the moment. The prices of the coconuts from Sri Lanka are around 25 Euro. The quality of the coconuts is good, but we work with top suppliers," concludes Hans.
