The Spanish cauliflower is packed under the familiar Buena Vista label. Van Walderveen has enjoyed a long, productive collaboration with La Pequeña Holanda, who grows cauliflower exclusively for Van Walderveen on 988 acres of land. The entire company has been modernized according to the latest techniques, with new harvesting machines, a new warehouse and new growing area.
"We have supply for both products arriving three to four times a week. The carrot season lasts until the end of April. We will continue with the cauliflower until the beginning of April when the Dutch cauliflower is back on the market," says Bas van Walderveen.
"Demand for the carrots is really good. But there is a bit of a situation with the cauliflower; the Dutch cauliflower has been on the market longer than usual because of the warm weather. This makes it harder for the Spanish cauliflower to sell. The quality of the Dutch cauliflower is significantly less than the Spanish, but because of the difference in price, not everyone is switching over to the Spanish product," says Bas.
