Transport company affected

Wholesale market Karlsruhe: cause of fire remains unclear

"The main business of trading at the wholesale market continues at the same level and without interruption," states Armin Baumbusch, managing director of wholesale market in Karlsruhe. Last Monday a large fire broke out in a storage facility of fruit and vegetables. An employee discovered the fire around 11.30 and directly warned the emergency services. One person was slightly injured due to smoke inhalation.

It took several long hours to extinguish the fire. A total of 75 firefighters were involved in the operation. “A transport company on the premises was the most affected party,” states the managing director Baumbusch, “It will take weeks until the total extent of the damage is clear.”

Cause of fire unclear
The cause of the fire is still unclear, says the managing director. "The fire expert left on Wednesday around 16:00 clock. But it may still take a few weeks until we know what the exact cause of the fire."

Extensive damage
The extent of the damage caused by the fire will be millions of Euro according to Armin Baumbusch.
