Mexico: Zacatacas' peach recovers

According to the latest data from the Department of Agrifood and Fisheries Information Service (SIAP), Zacatecas increased its peach production by 50.22 percent in 2015 over the previous year.

In 2014 Zacatecas produced 16,770.73 tons of peaches. Meanwhile, by November this year, the state had already exceeded its yearly goal by 8,423.27 tons.

So far in 2015, the state has produced about 25,194 tons of peach, just slightly less than the States of Mexico and Michoacan, which produced 29,980 and 25,865 tons respectively.

The advances reveal that the entity continues to be the third largest peach production state nationwide.

Zacatecas has 11,778 hectares devoted to producing peaches, 7,598 of which had been harvested by the beginning of November, thus total production could increase to 39,055.848 tons if one takes into account that the average yield per hectare is 3,316 tons.

Nationally, the country produces about 169,229 tons of peaches per year, this indicates that the state of Zacatecas accounts for 23.07 percent of the national production.
