Norm Letnick, head of BC's Department of Agriculture, said China is the second largest export market for agricultural products. For five years BC's agricultural products are exported to China. Blueberry growers from BC are also optimistic about next year's prices on the Chinese market. Currently, blueberries have become Canada's largest export fruit variety with the most value.
Rhonda Driediger from the BC Provincial Agriculture Committee said that because China's agriculture has been plagued for a long time by pollution of air, water and soil, the Chinese market responses are good for agricultural products from clean environments. According to reports, Canada has three blueberry varieties, which are: low-bush blueberries, high bush blueberries and half-high bush blueberries. BC has the third largest high bush blueberry production of the world. From July to October it is blueberry production season. This is also the time the blueberries enter the market. The first batch of high-quality fresh blueberries from BC arrived in China in early September.
