Californian nut processor continues expansion

Pearl Crop, a fast-growing nut processing company, is now operational at its newly purchased 126,000 square-foot plant in Stockton, California. The company purchased the vacant industrial facility earlier in the year before investing to retrofit and prepare the site for food processing.

Ulash Turkhan, founder and CEO, said, “This was a massive undertaking but our growing company needed to expand and this site offered many unique advantages.”

The Stockton facility houses processing of almonds as well as it’s headquarter offices for sales, logistics, and executive staff. The Stockton plant has the capacity to handle nearly 80 million pounds a year. Now that the facility is fully operational, Pearl Crop is making investments to bring state of the art food safety capabilities on-line and high-tech processing to further increase production.

Turkhan stated that Pearl Crop hired an additional 40 people for the Stockton plant and now operates with a year round employment of 150 and a total of 250 employees during peak harvest.

The Stockton plant adds to the growing number of nut processing facilities that Pearl Crop operates in the Central Valley. Pearl Crop has a facility in Linden dedicated to processing walnuts with another plant in Ripon for almond and nut oil processing.

“While we have grown quickly from a start up in 2007 to a major player in nut processing today, I believe we are now positioned for even greater growth which will benefit our growers, employees and the community,” said Turkhan.
