China: prices of red and green pepper in decline

Over the past months, the average wholesale price of green peppers in China has been fluctuating between 2.4 Yuan per kilo and 4.4 Yuan per kilo. These numbers exceed last year's prices for the same period. However, market analysts believe that prices of peppers, including green peppers, and other varieties, will soon start to drop.

At the moment, prices of green peppers lay approximately between 1.2 Yuan and 1.6 Yuan. These prices are a little bit higher than last year's prices in the same time period. Generally, the period from April to June and from October to December are periods with lower vegetable prices. Mid-year prices of green peppers are relatively strong.

This year's climate conditions are good for the production of red pepper. In various regions red pepper acreages are expanding. The red pepper bumper crop is already finished. This will stabilize red pepper prices.

The market price of dried red pepper will also be affected. Recently, wholesale prices of dried red peppers fluctuated between 6.3 Yuan and 5.0 Yuan per kg, lower than the 7.8 Yuan last year in the same period.

In the past three years, dried red pepper market prices have been in a continuous state of decline. Three years ago, prices were higher at 9 Yuan per 0.5 kg. In recent years, acreage has expanded, causing today's prices to drop.

October is already at the end of the season as new red peppers enter the market. But according to dealers, they still have a large amount of stock, thus the pepper prices are likely to fluctuate.
