CarbAmericas partners with Mexican growers to strengthen asparagus program

CarbAmericas, the premier sourcing agent of fruits and vegetables for retail and foodservice, strategically expands their asparagus program to diversify and lengthen their season. CarbAmericas will be at PMA Fresh Summit booth #5175 sampling their asparagus along with other core products including broccoli, mangos, and sugar snap peas.

In 1993, CarbAmericas became one of the first companies to import asparagus from Peru. Today, the leading supplier of imported asparagus has deeply rooted relationships with Peruvian growers that go back over twenty years. CarbAmericas has now expanded their program by investing in a collection of Mexican farms in Irapuato and establishing grower partnerships in Caborca. The company now supplies harvests from Caborca (January through April), Irapuato (June through September) and Peru (March through December).

CarbAmericas’ exclusive asparagus brand, Cypress Creek, continues to grow with the support of Mexican growers and packing facilities. The company has partnered with a packing facility in Irapuato which is built up of several regional growers, and does business with a well-respected family which represents four packing facilities in Carboca with consistently high standards. Many of CarbAmericas grower-partners will attend Fresh Summit.

“Our retail partners can continue to expect consistent pricing and quality with all our products and especially with our Mexican asparagus,” said Danny Pollak vice president of sales at CarbAmericas. “We’re expecting volume to increase by 30% percent this year and welcome attendees to sample our pristine asparagus at PMA Fresh Summit.”

CarbAmericas was established as an import company that could bridge the gap between growing regions in the United States and Mexico, and source fruits and vegetables from South and Central American when the northern hemisphere was lacking production. Along with fresh produce, the sourcing agent offers frozen items and are helping to build IQF facilities in Peru, Nicaragua and Guatemala.
