The workers of the Agribusiness Victoria de Giron, located in the municipality of Jagüey Grande, expect to harvest between 35,000 and 40,000 tons of grapefruit in the campaign that just started.
Citrus growers from Matanzas expect yields and sales to increase as a result of the timely replacement of plantations, some which had been operating for more than 30 years, the economy contracted deliveries.
The program for the citrus activity includes refining profit centres, fighting pests and diseases by introducing fruit patterns that have a higher resistance and productivity, while applying technical improvements in the harvest, transportation, and processing of the fruits.
Matanzas mainly exports and sells its products to the touristic sector, which grants access to a market that currently has good prices, especially in Europe, a region that uses Cuban fruits and juices to enhance the flavor of citrus mixtures acquired in other nations.
With assets approaching forty thousand hectares of productive areas and a diversification of its offer, especially in tropical fruits, the Victoria de Giron Company is meeting its productive commitments and increasing the presence of fresh fruit in the markets under the trademark Cubanita, which is widely accepted in Europe.
