The Netherlands is the main target market
Bananas most exported Peruvian organic product
Almost half of all the Peruvian organic product exports are bananas, making this product is the Peru's main organic product for export. Exports of this product amounted to 88.1 million dollars in 2013.
The main destination for the Peruvian bananas is the Netherlands, followed by the USA and Germany, which are known for having a growing number of consumers of organic products. Most of the bananas shipped abroad are fresh and a very small share is dried.
According to Gladys TriveƱo, "Peru has a great potential to become a world power in organic products."
Although the figures show this product's exports have had a steady annual growth since 2001, it's important to keep in mind that there has been a slight decrease in the export of dried bananas. In that sense, it is necessary more companies develop products based on organic bananas, which enjoy great favour in markets such as Canada or the United States, where consumers have a great predilection for banana snacks.
