"Jos Debast: "Prices under pressure"
Plenty of Pink Lady at Van Dijk Foods Belgium
The European Pink Lady season officially started last week with quantities arriving from Italy and France. According to Jos Debast the quality, colour and volumes are good. "In almost all respects it is a completely normal season, except that prices are under pressure since the first arrivals are behind."
"Sales are good because everybody wants to have Pink Lady in their shop." He continues, "Domestic production in Belgium has been good this year and a lot has been sold internally. Imported apples are laying just under the low price of the other apples, but that should stabilize in the foreseeable future."
Pressure from France
"You do feel the pressure from France and Italy because export is not running at its best. Their expectations were high because they referred to last season, but as we all know that was exceptional, both in terms of volumes, calibre and price. We are positive that this years product will meet everybody's expectations in terms of quality, packaging, calibre and volume and that is good for everyone," he concluded.
