Favourable period for radish growers

There is a lot of demand for radish at the moment, which is resulting in good prices. "Because the cultivation has been stagnating in the last three weeks as a result of the dark days the total supply has decreased a lot," says radish grower Erik de Jong from Monster. "We are now in a good period, the German production has dried up and as far as I know the Italians aren't in the market yet. This means we can fill a hole in the market."

Erik de Jong grows and packages multiple kinds of radish. "We also have special radishes such as white, and white tip radish," says Erik. "Unfortunately the demand for these products isn't pulling up at the same time as the demand for regular radish. It needs more time in the trade." Erik has found the market positive so far. "We had a low price forming for a few weeks in September. But despite this it's been a good Autumn on the whole."

The quality of the radish is also good at the moment, despite the dark days. "It's not bad at all," concludes Erik. "It looks good. The cultivation is stagnating a bit, but this is making the radishes stable and uniform."
