Hans de Waard, Hagé International

Netherlands: ''Production of Spanish exotics noticeably on the rise''

The Greenery had a prominent stand at Fruit Attraction in Madrid, together with its associates Hagé International, Hoogsteder and Mulder Onions. "Spain is an important supplier for us. We are able to get a foot in the door and deal directly with the Spanish export market and local sales due to our Greenery Spain sales office in Valencia," says Hans de Waard from Hagé International.

What is noticeable is the increasing Spanish production of exotics such as cherimoyas, kakis, avocados and mangos. "The Spanish growers are looking at products that give a higher return. The profit per kilo is higher with tropical fruit than with traditional products,'' says Hans.

It's the first time that Hans has been at Fruit Attraction and he felt it was a good convention. "We received a good amount of visitors, but it was just that little bit more relaxed than it was in Berlin. It might be an interesting idea to have a stand in the Spanish hall with the next visit to Fruit Attraction."
