In the first nine months of 2012, the value exports of fresh asparagus rose year on year by 13.7%, reaching USD 219.8 million, US (15.9% growth), Netherlands (10.3%) and the UK (20.0%). However, there was a reduction in the value of exports to Spain (-0.7%). It is important to point out that these destinations accounted for 90% of national exports of fresh asparagus.
In terms of volume, exports accumulated a year on year decline of 7.5% reaching a total of 73,800 MT, due to lower shipments to the U.S. (-11.3%) And Spain (-16.6%).
In the period that has been reported, there has been a 22.9% increase in the average export price by going from USD 2,422 per MT to USD 2,977 per MT, this development responds to the high value given by American and European
consumers.
Up to September 2012 exports of fresh asparagus were done through 95 companies like: Complejo Agroindustrial Beta (13.0%), Danper Trujillo (6.5%), Camposol (6.2%), Global Fresh (6.0%), Santa Sofía del Sur (4.9%), Agricultural La Venta (4.6%) and Sociedad Agrícola Drokasa (4.2%).
