Meanwhile, in the period between January and July, exports amounted to 2.6 million dollars, which means a 26% growth compared to the same period in 2011.
So far this year, Peruvian shipments went mainly to the European market (56% of the total) and to North America (17%).
Among the main destinations are Germany, with shipments valued at 600,239 dollars and a 64% growth compared to the same period in 2011; the United States, with 442,318 dollars (-1%) and Belgium (439,261 dollars), up 57%.
Germany stood out as the main destination market, with sales showing a steady increase. Since the 2008 - 2011 period, Peruvian shipments to this country have grown annually at an average of 53%.
Among the main exporting firms between January and July we find Agroworld, with sales amounting to 1.1 million dollars; Mebol, with 684,753 dollars and Agropackers, with 339,560 dollars, among others.
From an international perspective, according to data from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in 2010 the main strawberry producers were the United States, with 1.3 million tonnes, Turkey, with 299,940 tonnes and Spain, with 275,300 tonnes.
Meanwhile, Peru's production reached 22,996 tonnes, said Comex.
