Service study German organic supermarkets: advice not always correct

German supermarkets specialised in selling organic products are popular and clients are feeling safe. It has now been shown in a study of the 'Deutschen Instituts für Service-Qualität' that employees are not always as competent as they think. The market researchers looked at the service and advice of ten organic supermarkets.

Clients are often advised, but this advice is sometimes not correct. More than twenty five percent of the information supplied appears to be incorrect. In eight out of one hundred test visits the sales person gave incorrect information.

The strength of the organic supermarket, according to the researcher, is the extensive assortment. Except various brands and varieties the sector also satisfies with the quality of the products. Fruit and vegetables are always fresh. Also many shops offer fresh products, such as cakes, meat and cheese. Also the nice design and clean shops are the reason for a pleasant shopping experience, according to the researchers.

Winner of the test and with that 'Bester Bio-Supermarkt', is Ebl Naturkost. This Bavarian organic supermarket chain made a favourable impression a varied assortment. The staff is very friendly and professional. In second place was Naturgut. They attracted attention because of their large assortment. And in their shops most supplementary services are available, such as bistro's and children's playgrounds. The third pace is for VollCorner. The sales person took time and the answers to questions were correct.

In the research at ten organic supermarket chains (100 outlets in total) attention was paid to competence and friendliness of the staff, goods on offer, the waiting period and the look of the organic shops.
