DailyFresh Logistics starts intermodal logistic concept in Spain

The Spanish fruit and vegetable exporter is very attached to its traditional way of transport, the truck which has been playing a perfect role in exporting the Spanish fruit and vegetables. However, there have been complications in the last five years, such as the high fuel prices, the European driving period decision, higher tariffs for the toll roads and also the strong decline of the return loads to Spain as a result of the crisis.

DailyFresh Logistics will start a logistics concept in Spain, starting in September, in which no concession will be made to the properties of the cool transport by road. This is also a system that the DailyFresh partners Visbeen and Post-Kogeko have been using for decades between the European continent and England. "Because we're exporters ourselves, we understand all parties and so we can offer a tailor-made logistical concept," says Adrie Visbeen. The GPS systems which were built on the trailers, give the customer the option to gain an insight into the position, temperature and speed 24 hours per day.

Combining the road to the sea makes it possible to offer fast transit times and to make sure that they are also good connections on the roads. Transfennica is the RO/RO line which, for five years, has sailed from Bilbao to Zeebrugge twice a week and to Tilburg once a week. It is expected that the frequency will rise to 3 departures in the fourth quarter. Transdennica has realised a 98% reliability rate in the departure and arrival times. Combinations can be made with other services which leave from Zeebrugge to Ireland, Scotland, England, Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Russia. Transfennica is also constantly on the lookout for chances to sail to other North European ports from Bilbao.

In this intermodal system customers won't notice a difference in the way of transportation. The trailer arrives at the shipper's door, is pre-cooled and then loaded, leaves for the port of Bilbao, goes straight on board there and is connected electrically, so the temperature is ensured. Upon arrival in the port the trailer is connected and brought to the recipient at the right temperature. No disruption of the cooling chain, no toll, and no kilometers in France.

DailyFresh Logistics uses local transporters for loading the trailers from the export areas, Huelva, Sevilla, Cordoba, Malaga, Almeria, Murcia, Alicante, Valencia and Castellon, who transport them to Bilbao, where they are given a loaded trailer for destinations in Spain.
There is a need for all types from North Europe to Spain & Portugal (Southbound).

DailyFresh Logistics will start of with supplying the two existing departures per week:

Example: Valencia – Bilbao - Zeebrugge - Barendrecht :
  • Monday evening loading ,Tuesday 18:00 o'clock departing from Bilbao - Thursday 08:00 o'clock Zeebrugge – 11:30 o'clock Barendrecht = 2.5 days
  • Thursday evening loading - Friday 20:00 o'clock departing from Bilbao - Monday 08:00 o'clock Zeebrugge – 11:30 o'clock Barendrecht = 3.5 days

Example: Murcia – Bilbao - Tilbury UK - Birmingham UK :
Thursday evening loading - Friday 20:00 o'clock departing from Bilbao - Sunday 14:00 o'clock Tilbury - 20:00 o'clock Birmingham UK = 3 days

Due tot he various links very attractive transit times can also be realised for Scandinavian destinations.
