Spain: Expectations for the new Vinalopó table grape season

The town of La Romana, in Alicante, Spain, hosted the presentation of the new Vinalopó table grape season, with a harvest expected to reach 70,000 tonnes.

Organised by its Control Board of Designation of Origin (CRDO), the campaign aims to certify the quality of the region's table grapes.

The presentation ceremony was attended by the Councillor of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food and Water, Maritima Hernández, the president of the CRDO, José Bernabéu, and the major of La Romana, Manuel Hernández, as well as representatives from other municipalities, producers and growers from the region.

Asaja pointed out that the packing of the early varieties, which started in late June, is expected to reach 70,000 tonnes, from which 48,500 will receive the Designation of Origin.

Asaja's president in Novelda (one of the largest table grape producers in the province), Pedro Rubira, said that grape clusters this year are "bigger and have settled excellently after flowering", which promises "grapes of exceptional quality."

In this sense, his counterpart in Monforte, Alicante, Álvaro Vicente Boyer, stressed the fact that the quality of this year's fruit is "outstanding, one of the best ever seen."
