On Monday 3 September, the Union of Exporters of Chilean Fruit, ASOEX signed an agreement with the Union of Producers of Fresh Produce of Morocco (APEFEL).
Chairman of ASOEX, Ronald Bown and Chairman of APEFEL, Lahoucine Adardour
“This treaty is the result of two years of hard work, and is of vital importance to Chile’s fruit sector. Morocco is an indispensable gateway to North Africa. But even more importantly, the agreement represents a significant improvement of the commercial relationship between these two nations, especially because of our complementary seasons,” Ronald Bown stated.
The treaty contains, among other things, the exchange of information, support in sales, planning and prospects, and a more structured exchange of technology.
Morocco is one of the chief suppliers of citrus fruits in Europe and Russia. In 2008, over two-thirds of the country’s export (in fruit, citrus, tomatoes and vegetables) was heading for the EU. The country is an important buyer of produce from the southern hemisphere: it imports almost 10,000 tons of fruit a year, of which 2,500 tons comes from Chile.
