WTO membership to open up Russian market

Russia has just become a member of the World Trade Organization (WTO) after 18 years of negotiations. In principle, this entails great prospects for a possible increase in the exports of Spanish citrus and other fruits and vegetables, because now the rules of the game have become clear, or at least that is what is expected from the agreement.

As a consequence of this, Russia will reduce their import duties, will limit their export duties and will grant service providers from the EU better access to their market, making the rules and procedures simpler within numerous fields affecting bilateral economic relationships.

Special attention will be paid to the regulations on customs procedures, the application of sanitary and phytosanitary measures, technical standards and the protection of intellectual and industrial property.
