Michael Olij optimistic about open ground vegetable market

"Erratic supply UK field vegetables"

For six years Michael Olij has represented the Dutch office of the British import and export company Moorhouse & Mohan LTD. The company specializes in the export of potatoes, onions and lettuce and focuses on sales to Ireland, Scandinavia, the British Isles and Spain. Michael is optimistic about the open ground vegetable season.

"The price of lettuce is currently around 5 Euro and that's a great price. But, you see countries like Spain where the price level is dropping faster. The offer is currently not too large and demand is actually coming from all over Europe," says Michael. "The cauliflower and broccoli market has had a bit of a dip, but currently there is less on the market and the prices are rising again."

"The carrot market has very been good and is going fine. Also from the UK there is demand for carrots for processing. Because of the wet weather does the British field crops are very erratic. It really full on then stops, but demand will probably remain all season. The onion price is currently around 20 cents and potatoes in big bags go for 20 cents," concludes Michael.
