US: It's Florida avocado season at Uncle Matt's!
"These varieties are specific and unique to Florida and are grown in South Florida," says Matt McLean, founder and CEO of Uncle Matt's. "We have partnered with longtime family friend and grower, Murray Bass, and Twin Meadows LLC to produce this high-quality nutritional fruit that differs in size, color and taste from Mexican varieties."
Florida avocado varieties tend to be larger and greener than their Mexican counterparts and deliver important health benefits. Florida organic avocados contain less fat and fewer calories than the popular Hass avocado. They are a good source of dietary fiber, folate, potassium, as well as Vitamins B6 and C. Avocados are also a source of the "good kind of fat" due to oleic acid, a monounsaturated fat that may help to lower cholesterol.
Uncle Matt's avocados are USDA certified organic and are grown without the use of synthetic pesticides or fertilizers. Uncle Matt's will offer the following varieties at different times throughout the six-month season: Donnie, Simmonds, Nesbitt, Beta, Tonnage, Black Prince, Hall and Monroe.
Uncle Matt’s Organic Florida "green skin" avocados are available at Publix and regional Whole Foods. The avocados are also distributed through Albert’s Organics.
