Dominican Republic's banana exports earn $650 million profit
The Dominican Republic made around 650 million dollars with their banana exports during the last eight years, informs the Ministry of Agriculture today.
To reach this number, around 798,000 tonnes of the product were shipped to the US, Europe and other parts of the world, with great local consumption, as bananas are part of the daily diet of Dominicans.
According to official sources, banana production in this Caribbean country of 10 million inhabitants generates 25,000 direct jobs, and 300,000 people also benefit from the planting and commercialization.
Dominicana appears among the main banana producers at regional level and leads the way in the harvesting of organic bananas.
