Germany: Harvest of sweet cherries limited due to rainfall

In the South West of Germany repeated rain showers influenced the harvest of sweet cherries until the beginning of week 27. The arrival of the supply is still far behind the usual development of the supply, reports the German Agrarmarkt Informations-Gesellschaft (AMI).

The harvest of the variety Kordia is slowly ending and more and more late varieties are being harvest, such as Regina and Sweetheart. In the region Franken the main season has started. Here the weather has also left its traces amongst the yield. The rainfall lately has meant that more needs sorting. In Eastern Germany harvest has also been lost due to early frost and rain, but here the losses are less drastic than in the west of Germany.
