Colombian courts to investigate banana entrepreneurs

The Colombian Courts of Justice will investigate at least 226 entrepreneurs who may have given monetary support to extreme right-wing militia groups from the Urabá region, informs the newspaper El Tiempo.

The Colombian newspaper pointed out that the fate of 226 banana entrepreneurs, who "gave voluntary financial aid" to militia boss Freddy Rendón, lies in the hands of the ordinary courts.

The list, which El Tiempo had access to, was handed by Raúl Hasbún, the first entrepreneur linked to the case, to the prosecutor Nubia Chávez, who is in charge of the investigation.

"Some names stand out, like the ex-ambassador of the Álvaro Uribe administration in Brussels and president of the banana marketer Banafrut, Nicolás Echavarría", highlights the newspaper.
