Peter Maes, Zeghers:

"Good prices for Argentinean lemons"

The lemon market is pretty stable at the moment according to Peter Maes from Zeghers imports. He admits that the Spanish season has transitioned nicely into the Argentinian. "The Spanish season ended abruptly in June. It looked like it was going to be a large harvest, but the volumes diminished quickly at the end. This is why the prices were at a high level."

"There is usually an overlap between the Spanish and Argentinian season, but this time they matched up nicely. We started around the 20th of June with Spanish lemons and we switched over at the right moment. It was a few weeks later than last year, but that was due to rainy weather in Argentina." According to Peter, the quality is great at the moment. He also had something to say about the prices, "They are around 1.10 and 1.20 and that is good for this time of year. I hope that the market situation will stay at this level for a while," says the importer.

Zeghers offers a large assortment of fruit and vegetables. Their range consists mainly of lemons, pineapple, stone fruit, grapes and melons. A Tyler's lemon is well known by the European Centre of fruit and vegetables.
