Ferrari Ortofrutticoli, Castelnuovo Scrivia, Alessandria, Italy deals with onions and potatoes.
"About the potato crop in 2011, we can say there is a fair stock, with limited Italian as well as foreign demand. New potatoes harvested in 2012 are excellent but their production is limited. Prices will rise because there is little production of new potatoes," Raffaella and Renzo Ferrari say.
Golden onions from Castelnuovo.
"Production of onions was huge in 2011 but their quality was barely sufficient with limited prices, stocks are now finished. The 2012 harvest is quite good in quantity and its quality is average. Offer is good and superior to demand. It is not possible to make predictions about the price trend."
According to the owners, weather conditions in Northern Italy limited the production. Foreign competition, on the other hand, is affecting seriously the local products, above all potatoes.
"We provide about 40MT potatoes annually to both small-medium and large commercial shops and supermarkets, whose value has increased in the last few years thanks to the brand Alta Qualità Bassa valle Scrivia."
Main types of packaging are:
- potatoes in 1.5 - 2 - 5 - 10 kg bags;
