Brazil: A new tomato resistant to Fusarium launched in Espíritu Santo

Productivity, quality and resistance. This is the combination in the new tomato variety launched last week, in the Hotel Aroso Paço, in Domingos Martins, Brazil, in the presence of about 70 producers and the sector's authority. The Fusion Tomato from Vilmorin is resistant to Fusarium, a disease that attacks plantations and causes damage to producers of this fruit.

Farmers in Espirito Santo were longing for this variety, since the mountain region of Espirito Santo is at the forefront of tomato production which is the main agro-activity in the area, with an important contribution in the social-economic part of the region. The State launch was organized by Defrago Defensivos Agricolas, a company distributing this product.

According to Josélio Tessaro, manager for Defrago, the new variety will be an ally, among other factors, because of its resistance to the main diseases. "The Fusion variety offers a vigorous plant with good leave covering, high profit potential and a high percentage of fruit," said Tessaro.

The new variety has a brilliant and intense red colour. It is uniform in size, resistance and durability.
