Mexico: Vegetable growers are worried about pests due to heat

The heat wave that has swept through the Yaqui Valley (Mexico)in the last few days is worrying, because it is not only harmful to health but it could also be a triggering factor for the increase of pests and weeds.

According to the National Weather Radar in the last three days of last week they recorded temperatures above 42 degrees
C, which increases the potential for citizens to suffer dehydration or even heat stroke.

In the case of the damages in the Yaqui Valley due to the heat wave, the local board of Plant Protection, issued a recommendation to vegetable producers, to keep watch on their crops, as this type of temperature is more conducive to the generation of pests such as the whitefly or for the growth of weeds like bindweed and oats.

In the case of the effect on crops it is important to have strict control, because if it is not kept under control pests such as whitefly, may affect crop yields.
