However, CPF expects a strong season

Peru: Increasing costs threat to citrus export companies

Consorcio de Productores de Fruta S.A., also known as CPF was founded in Lima on March 22nd, 2001. It stands out in the international market thanks to their production and export of different varieties of citrus (Satsuma, Minneola, W. Murcott Honey Murcott, Fortune and Lane Late) and Hass avocado.

CPF is characterized by the export of their products to various international markets. North America (Canada and the United States), Central and South America, Europe and Asia are the destinations for export. "We want to emphasize our presence in Asia and we are looking to venture into the Middle East market," said Augusto Reinoso, Commercial Manager of CPF.

This season, CPF has very good prospects in both production and marketing of the fruit. "The weather conditions are good and we project that the fruit quality will be excellent this year," said Reinoso.

With respect to market changes and international prices, Augusto said, "although the international market is always changing, it is beneficial to have the fruit committed in programs with supermarkets. The quality of our products is allowing us to close important programs and open new markets."

In 2011 CPF exported 1,583 containers and its projection for 2012 is 1,800 containers. Their main customers are importers from various countries and supermarket chains who have direct programs.

The main threats to CPF during this season are the exchange rate, the costs which have increased over the last year and economic instability in certain parts of Europe. However, with high quality fruit and complying to their Customers, they expect to have a very good season.
