Spain: Courgette and eggplant widen commercial margins in May
But this difference is not only clear for courgette, as the eggplant is another of the products where the difference is quite noticeable, reaching 621%. In fact, according to IPOD, during May, farmers got 0.19 Euro for a kilo of eggplant, while the consumer paid 1.37 Euro for that same kilo.
This indication, made by the Coordinator of Farmers and Live-stockers Organizations (COAG) and the consumers organizations UCE and CEACCU shows that other products, like cucumber and watermelon were some of the products that suffered the biggest raises, by registering a price difference of 576% and 500% between prices at origin and paid by consumers, respectively.
Tomato registers 400%, green pepper 336%, red pepper 226% and melon 200%, were also some of the products in which the price difference is significant during May.
The Index of Prices at Origin and Destination (IPOD) also reflects that the agricultural index was multiplied by 4.84 during last May.
